Studer A80 VU Audio Recap Service Upgrade kit

KIT A80 VU audio -  For most Studer multi-track modular machines 1/4 - 2". 

This kit is for those A80VU machines that have plug in modules above the machine - 1 module per track.

This kit contains parts for :

• Replacement capacitors for all the electrolytics 
• Replacement for all tantalum capacitors
• Option for adding A101 linear amplifier modules
• factory update components

This kit comes in a number of variations and options for  2, 4, 8, 16 or 24 modules  

This kit is only for the audio modules. This kit does not include any preset adjuster potentiometers as the originals are good quality and are fully sealed - it would rare that any would be faulty or too old to be serviceable. However for early Mk1 stabiliser modules an update kit is included to to update to later adjustable versions.

The variations are:  Mk1   Mk2 -3  and Mk4 & MR.  AND then as a separate item add A101 modules as applicable.

PLEASE NOTE A101 modules.  All models except mk4 / MR have A101 linear amplifier modules which give problems as they age. If they are fully encapsulated, its essential you replace them otherwise you will have problems. 

If not and you can see the components on the little piggy back boards, you dont need the Nagravox A101 - but check each card in each module - some may have been converted to the later discrete version (below pic on right) 

How many do you need?  If you have the old encapsulated versions then For Mk2/3 generally 2 will be required per module plus 2 on the oscillator module in the main cabinet.  Please check as often boards are mixed around over the years. For Mk1 one would (ouch !) need 17 for each audio channel / module + 2 for the master oscillator card in the main cabinet. + if you have separate sync line amps another 1. Add these as extras separately as appropriate.

PLEASE NOTE:  Many mk1's in particular were updated to the later non encapsulated discrete component versions early on in their life by approved Studer service technicians. (They apparently groaned every time they had to do a 24 track!). So please check each of your modules as some or many may be the later A101's in which case you dont need our A101's just a 10/63 capacitor which is included in the kit anyway.

SCOPE of RECAPPING  Not to scare you but just to make you aware. Here are examples of components and logistics of recapping an A80 VU model.  

Mk1 2 track  - 128 caps + optional A101 parts x36 or x38 if separate sync line amps option is present.

Mk1 24 track -  1592 caps, trimmers, resistors + optional A101 parts x170 or x194  if separate sync line amps option is present.

Mk2/3 - 8 track - 650 caps + optional A101 parts x18
