A80 END OF TAPE lamp and sensor kits

The A80 series (All A80 and A81) EOT system uses a special long life incandescent bulb as an illuminator and a high quality miniature LDR photo sensor to detect out of tape or leader tape conditions. Nagravox has obtained original spec replacements for both the sensor and lamp.  Generally it is the lamp that fails due to old age and possibly vibration.  Both lamp and sensor are fairly straight forward to replace.

The end of tape sensor module for all A80’s is the same. A simple incandescent bulb (2.5V  350ma high reliability 5000h). The lamp bulb is a special part not previously easily obtainable. Nagravox now has stock of the correct bulbs The bulb  does fail due to age degradation  and vibration.  

The  photo sensor is a high quality (cds) light dependant resistor and is very reliable. In the unlikely event you need a new one, Nagravox has some limited stock.

TESTING - do you need one or both of these parts?

The lamp when it is on is clearly visible.  So that's an easy test.

The sensor is simply a light dependant resistor and measures >1 Mohm in the dark and approx 20 - 30 Kohm in normal room light. The sensor seldom needs replacing.  As we have very limited stock of the expensive sensor, please DO NOT purchase on a whim "that you think its a good idea to replace".  It isnt!

Lamps possibly have a shortened life if the 5.8V supplies are adjusted too high or the voltage drop via the resistor and/or diode dropper circuitry is not correct.  Its best to check the voltage on the appropriate boards as described in our service manual. I like to see 2.1 – 2.4V max
